You are offered (and its included in total care) all standard testing and procedures, meaning you don't need to see an OB. However we follow the midwifery model of care and you choose with informed consent every step of the way  how you would like to proceed through your pregnancy.  We practice continuity of care, the same midwife that you enter care with is who will be attending your birth. There is no rotating or meeting new faces at each appointment.

ABC is a safe and inclusive practice that provides care to people of all genders, identities, and sexual orientation. We support a large range of low risk clientele including VBAC's after multiple cesareans, planned breech, and twin deliveries all on a case by case basis. We also accept late transfers of care if the client is low risk and space is permitting. A la carte appointments are an option.

INVESTMENT FOR MIDWIFERY CARE

How much will it cost?

ABC's ALL INCLUSIVE early pay investment is $5500 when paid by 37 weeks gestation. Discounted from our global fee of $8500.  If you choose to have a water birth at home,  ABC will provide the tub and most accessories. You will only be required to supply a potable hose long enough for your home layout and any necessary faucet adapter if the ones we provide do not suffice.

If  you are able to pay in full upfront  at your first prenatal visit we discount your care even more to $5000 total. If you are unable to pay in full upfront, we can set you up on a monthly payment plan over the course of your pregnancy. The monthly amount will  depend on at what point in your pregnancy you enter care, as your final payment must be paid by the time you reach your delivery window (37 weeks). Some extensions are available up to 6 weeks postpartum on a case by case basis., If you qualify for our sliding scale services, your total investment is cheaper than the price listed above. We operate in a tier system. Please contact us for more information.

ABC is considered out of network with all insurance plans. We do not bill insurance directly but will provide you with a Super bill to self submit for reimbursement.  If you are planning to extend your payments beyond 37 weeks without an agreed upon payment plan, OR if you default and fail to commit to the payment plan - the total investment for your care will be billed at  $8500.

All  clients are required to pay a $550 retainer fee in order to reserve  their spot on our calendar. This fee is applied towards your total  balance. We  accept cash, check, debit/credit cards and  HSA/FSA cards.  Most health share's and co-op's will also cover midwifery care out of hospital.

We  are fully aware that we are not the cheapest midwifery practice you can find. However,  we believe that our price adequately reflects the quality of care and  attention that you and your baby will receive, while also respecting the time and education that we dedicate to the practice. Additionally, you  don't have to worry that there will be other unexpected costs such as  labs, anatomy ultrasounds, birth tub, and birth kits after beginning your care. The only additional costs are if you require non-routine labs or ultrasounds (this is rare) if you are  planning a twin or breech birth, since those require additional  midwives/birth assistants, or if you want complete home care including all in-home visits. Childbirth education, supplements, and chiropractic care are not included in your fee but are highly recommended. Our clients understand that this is an investment in their overall well-being!

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach out to us at alwaysbirthcentered@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

We provide complete prenatal care as long as you and your baby remain low risk. So no, most people will not need to see a physician. We are your complete care providers. If a situation requiring medical attention arises, we will refer you to one of several qualified physicians or you may visit a doctor of your choice for collaborative care. Very few of our clients will required complete transfer of care due to risk factors.

Of course! We absolutely love having siblings and partners take part in your prenatal  visits. and delivery We support family integration and bonding and that starts prenatally. Family-centered births are welcomed based on the  mother’s and children’s comfort level. It's totally up to you. If you have very small children we just ask that someone is present if needed to care for them while we care for you and your new baby.

We are not in-network with any insurance companies. (Most Certified Professional Midwives are not). We will provide you with a Super bill once your baby is born that you are able to self submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Insurance and Health Shares cannot be billed until AFTER the birth of the baby, so clients are still expected to pay the full fee by 37 weeks, and are then reimbursed by the insurance company for anything their insurance will pay for.  Often, our cash pay pricing is cheaper than your insurance deductible.

Although out-of-hospital birth is statistically safer, it does not  guarantee a complication-free birth. We only take on low-risk clientele so the chances of complications are slimmer. However, We are highly skilled and trained to detect and manage the majority of birth complications. We have all the necessary  medical equipment and supplies to safely deliver out of the hospital. We are trained in neonatal resuscitation and CPR. We carry oxygen, IV  fluids and supplies, anti-hemorrhagic medications, and suturing  equipment to repair tears if necessary.  Sometimes a client may deviate from the path of normal. Using our knowledge, training, and experience, we may try a few professional "tricks" to get things back on course but if those don't work, we won't wait around. We would much rather transfer to the hospital and everything end up fine than risk the health of you or your baby just to stay at home or at the birth center. Deviations from normal that should NOT be managed out of the hospital often have early warning signs which permit ample time to change the plan. In this rare instance that a transport does become necessary, we have working relationships with local hospitals, nurse midwives, and physicians and we will continue to be an active participant of your care until the birth of your baby. Once you are discharged from the  hospital, we generally resume the six weeks of postpartum care for you and your baby as planned.

We do offer midwifery care and TOLAC for women with one, two, and possibly three prior, low-transverse cesarean sections. We would need your medical records and operative report to collaborate and ensure that it is a safe option for you to attempt a trial of labor out of hospital. We evaluate each client on a case by case basis. Sometimes additional ultrasounds and collaboration with a physician are indicated. For VBAC support and education go to ICAN and VBACfacts .

We start seeing you at 8-12 weeks for prenatal care. We also offer preconception appointments. If you have had a history of a loss or desire an early dating sonogram we can start care as early as 6 weeks gestation.
